The GCA was established in 1966 by pioneers of the emerging garden centre movement, aiming to make plants available year-round and gardening more accessible to all. At the time, the concept of a ‘garden centre’ was still new, before the 1960s, most gardeners relied on nurseries or mail order. Since then, the GCA has grown to include some of the finest garden centres in the world, recognised for their extensive product ranges, exceptional displays, and outstanding catering.
Over the years, the industry has worked hard to reduce the impact of seasonal trade and unpredictable weather, with modern product ranges helping to stabilise business year-round. The GCA plays a key role in bringing together like-minded businesses and individuals, encouraging them to share ideas, support one another, and grow through a forward-thinking, collaborative community.
