The finishes and interiors sector in the UK generates £10 billion annually and employs 250,000 people, accounting for around 10% of all construction activity. Unlike other parts of the building process, fit-out and finishing occur multiple times throughout a building’s life—often over 30 times—directly influencing not only its appearance but also its functionality, safety, comfort, and the overall wellbeing of its users.
FIS represents a growing community of contractors, manufacturers, and distributors involved in ceilings, steel framing systems, operable walls, partitions, plastering, drylining, and specialist interior fit-outs. All members commit to the FIS Code of Conduct, which sets minimum standards to raise and maintain industry quality. Members undergo a thorough vetting process on joining, including site audits for contractors, and continue to be assessed regularly throughout their membership.
