New Deadline for ESOS Compliance
The Environment Agency (EA) has announced an extension to the deadline for complying with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) until 5th June 2024.
This decision has been made in response to requests from stakeholders, with the aim of providing assessors with more time to carry out assessments and enabling organisations to meet the new requirements that aim to strengthen the scheme.
Although the compliance date has been extended, it’s important to note that the qualification thresholds and date remain unchanged. ESOS still applies to all organisations, including their corporate groups, that were classified as large undertakings on 31 December 2022.
Submission Timeline
While the new requirements for Phase 3 are being finalised in legislation, the development of the IT system for submitting notifications is currently underway. As a result, businesses are encouraged to begin the data gathering and reporting process promptly. However, it is important to note that notifications of compliance cannot be submitted at this time.
ESOS Phase 3 – Additional Requirements
Phase 3 of ESOS introduces several additional requirements for compliance. These include changes to the de minimis exemption and the need to provide a more detailed, time-bound plan for implementing recommended measures.
